Blind Drawing

To see as we are seen or to see fully what is before us is impossible. How we see and what we see is determined by habit, culture, environment, education, symbols, etc.  At best, we can only be aware that what we see is not the reality of what is there.

Seeing must be learned and relearned.  When learning to draw one is learning to see and unlearning symbol, bias and habit.

This work comes from the idea of conditioned blindness.  The process involves being partly able to see-  blind to the work being created but not to the subject being drawn from.  Does this new reality hold the same or greater authority as the reality it was derived from?  What is this new reality?
